Can I Do An Apprenticeship If I’m Self Employed

Since the Apprenticeship Act went into effect in April 2011, all apprentices have been obliged to work under a contract of employment with an employer and therefore be paid a wage in line with the National Minimum Wage regulations. As a consequence, self-employed people will be unable to undertake an apprenticeship unless the occupation/job is recognised as exempt under the regulations governing the “alternative completion requirement.” ‘
