How Does Apprenticeship Pay Work

Every year, the government sets a minimum wage for jobs to pay their apprentices. Apprentices aged 16 and 18 and those aged 19 and over are entitled to the minimum wage rate in their first year.

How does apprenticeship pay work?

All other apprentices are entitled to the applicable national minimum wage rates for their generation. Wage rates can steadily increase during your apprenticeship as you develop your skills and knowledge.

Your hourly rate compensates you for the job you do during the contracted hours, which involves practice and studying about the profession. Furthermore, depending on the terms of the agreement, you might be entitled to overtime pay on any unpaid work you do, so it’s best to check how the apprenticeship pay work in the company you want to work for at the interview.
