What Age Are Apprenticeships For

One of the most widespread misconceptions regarding apprenticeships is that they are only available to school leavers. Recent government funding changes, however, have changed the look of apprenticeships.

Apprenticeships are available to anybody aged 16 and over, including school leavers, career changers, and those looking to enhance their skills as part of their current job.

Employers may see school leavers and older apprentices as having unique advantages. Some employers may prefer a candidate with more maturity and experience. Apprentices aged 16 to 18 years old, on the other hand, often have lower employment costs for the business.

Employers may fund apprenticeships for several reasons. A business may want to provide employment opportunities to recent school leavers. Alternatively, they may opt to train and shape a young person to suit their business culture.

Many factors must be considered when determining if an apprenticeship is suitable for you as an older candidate, including pay, finance, and what you want to achieve from your career.
